Apple has finally put a touchscreen on the Mac. At its “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles on 28 October 2026, the company made its first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro official, capping a week of Mac and iPad announcements.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro price
- 14-inch (M5 Pro): starts at $2,899 in the US
- 16-inch (M5 Pro): starts at $3,399 in the US
Pre-event reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said the redesigned models would pair OLED touchscreens with Dynamic Island and a lighter, thinner design. Check Apple’s own product page for the full specification list before you buy.
Everything else Apple announced this week
- OLED iPad mini (26 October): the first iPad outside the iPad Pro line with an OLED screen. One report suggested the new display could add about $100 to the price, but Apple has set the final pricing, so check its store.
- M6 MacBook Pro (27 October): a 14-inch model with Apple’s M6 chip, aimed at buyers who want the latest processor without the new touchscreen design.
- M6 iMac (27 October): the all-in-one desktop gets the M6 chip.
Earlier in October, Apple used a separate “Welcome Home” event on 13 October to launch its smart home hub, a revamped Apple TV 4K and a refreshed HomePod mini.
When can you buy it?
Apple’s online store usually opens orders soon after an event, and the new Macs are expected to reach shoppers in November so they land before the holiday shopping season. One Apple analyst pointed to a retail store reset on the evening of 5 November, which suggests stores could have the new MacBook Pro, M6 iMac and OLED iPad mini that day. That is an inference, not an Apple announcement, so confirm availability with Apple or your local store.
Should you wait or buy now?
- Want the newest design: the touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro is the one to consider, but it costs more.
- Want the best value: the M6 14-inch MacBook Pro keeps the familiar design and the latest chip.
- Not in a hurry: Macworld has noted that recent Apple price increases mean M6 machines could cost more than older ones, so compare prices carefully.
- Black Friday: older MacBook models are often discounted around 27 November, so last year’s model may be the bargain.
Prices and availability are based on reports at the time of writing. Check Apple’s official store for current details.
